Homework is given because it is useful in reinforcing what has been learned in class, it extends and generalizes concepts, it provides practice time, it teaches responsibility, and it helps students develop positive study habits. I feel that parents are the key to making homework a positive experience for their children. Therefore, I ask that parents make homework a top priority, provide necessary supplies and a quiet homework environment, set a daily homework time, provide praise and support, and contact me if they notice a problem.
Basic math fact memorization is imperative to student success in fourth grade math and beyond. Each week, students will participate in a timed quiz for multiplication. This is to ensure fact mastery. I ask that students practice their individualized fact throughout the week at home. I expect our students to give their very best effort on their homework. I expect homework to be neat; students will be required to do assignments over if homework does not meet these standards, and most importantly, I expect students to do the work on their own. Parents should help their children with homework if a problem arises, but only after children have tried their best to solve it on their own. In no case, however, should parents do homework for their children. I believe in each and every student!
