Welcome to 3rd Grade! I began teaching at OACS when my 2 daughters were students here in 2005 (a long time ago!). I am a resident of Oakland where I live with my husband and dog. We are empty-nesters as both our girls are grown now. I am a graduate of Mercer University with an Early Childhood Education degree.
My personal philosophy is that our mistakes are where true growth comes from and they are essential to knowledge acquisition for us all. I believe a teacher’s role is to provide safety, interest, and respect with consistency and warmth as we navigate a very important and challenging school year. As a timid and shy student, myself, hearing a teacher say, “There is no such thing as a silly question and you owe it to yourself to ask questions,” really resonated with me and I vowed to say that one day to my own class.
Being a teacher these days is more challenging than ever, but I still love coming to work each day and live for those “ah, ha!” moments I get to see in 3rd grade! I want and expect great things not only academically for your child but will strive to promote social and emotional growth as well. My classroom culture revolves around celebrating our differences, protecting what makes us each unique, as well as exploring our responsibilities in all the communities we each belong to.
I look forward to partnering with you this year and pledge to find and celebrate your child’s strengths, foster their hopes and dreams, and cheer them on through the hurdles!
