Residents of the Town of Oakland,
We are facing a trying time and a period of significant challenge. As of today, many people in Orange County have tested positive for the coronavirus and many more may have it.
On March 24, Mayor Jerry L. Demings signed an Executive Order mandating all Orange County residents, including those in all Orange County municipalities, to stay at home except for going to and from essential businesses for work, grocery shopping, medical appointments, isolated outdoor exercise, or walking your pet. The order goes into effect Thursday, March 26 at 11 p.m. and ends April 9 at 11 p.m.
It is vital that all Town of Oakland residents closely follow this order. The decisions made by our community leaders have not been made lightly, and are being put in place with the primary purpose of slowing the spread of this disease and saving precious lives. I ask that you follow the stay at home order, not only for your own health, but especially for the health of our aging population and those with underlying conditions. While we may not have control of this disease just yet, we can control our movements and habits to mitigate this public health crisis, save lives and shorten the duration of the impacts to businesses and the economy.
Additionally, your compliance will ease the strain on our healthcare professionals and first responders, who work on the front lines during these particularly trying times.
As a public servant of the Town of Oakland for 25 years, I am confident that we will face this crisis as a united community.
And remember, socially distant doesn’t have to mean alone. Please consider safely reaching out to your neighbors, the elderly and those less fortunate than yourself. We are all in this together, and together, we can reduce the overall impact and save lives – perhaps your own or that of a beloved family member.
We will continue to post the most up-to-date Town, county and statewide coronavirus information on our website, www.oaklandfl.gov. Stay safe and be well.
Mayor Kathy Stark
