1. What are the non-emergency and administrative phone numbers for the Oakland Police Department?

If you wish to report an incident or request an officer in a non-emergency situation, dial 407-656-9797, ext 2. This number is active 24 hours a day. Oakland Officers will be dispatched to you by the Winter Garden Police Department.

If you need to make a general inquiry, or speak with a member of the police department’s staff during normal business hours, dial 407-656-9797, ext. 5.

The police station is located at 540 East Oakland Avenue. It is part of the public safety building, at the corner of East Oakland Avenue and Motomassek Street. The parking lot is located at the rear of the building.

3. How do I obtain a copy of an incident or traffic crash report?

If you have been involved in an incident or a traffic crash which was investigated by the Oakland Police Department, you may obtain a copy of the report from our records section, located at the Police Station, at 540 E Oakland Avenue. The normal hours for our records section are from 8:30 a.m. until noon and 1 p.m. until 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. These reports are generally available 7 days after the incident or crash.

The cost for copying reports is $0.15 for a single sided page and $0.20 for a double sided page. Any administrative costs associated with the copying of reports or other records are in accordance with Florida State Statutes.

4. If I received a traffic citation that I don’t believe I deserved, how to I contest it?

If you received a traffic citation that you don’t think you deserved, you may contest it by attending traffic court. To do so, contact the Orange County Clerk of the Court at 407-667-6240. Traffic court is held at the Orange County Services Building, located at:

5. How do I get a concealed weapons permit?

The concealed weapons permit or firearms program is administered through the State Department of Agriculture. You may get your questions answered from them and all the forms that you need to apply online.

6. Who is required to wear a bicycle helmet?

Florida law requires that a bicycle rider or passenger under the age of 16 must wear a helmet that meets the nationally recognized standards for bicycle helmets. Additionally it is unlawful to rent a bicycle to a person under the age of 16 unless the person has an approved helmet or is provided one with the bicycle. Violations of the law related to bicycle helmets subject the violator to the issuance of a traffic citation, which may affect when they can be issued a driver's license. 7. How do I report suspicious activity?

The Police Department depends on citizens to call in and report crimes or other incidents that may seem suspicious. If you observe an emergency, dial 911. For non-emergencies call 407-656-9797, ext. 2. The dispatcher taking the call will ask you about the activity to help determine its nature and ask for descriptions of the people involved. You might be asked if an officer or detective may contact you.

8. Is there a period of time that I have to wait before reporting someone missing?

There is no waiting period required. When your knowledge of a person’s habits causes you a concern because they are missing, that is the time to call. A missing person’s report can be made at anytime.

9. How do I find out if the Oakland Police Department is in possession of my personal property?

If you have reason to believe that the Oakland Police Department has property belonging to you that was either lost, taken in a theft or turned in for safe keeping, you can call the Department at 407-656-9797, from 8:30 a.m. until noon and from 1 p.m. until 4:30, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. If the property can be released you can make arrangements at that time. You may be asked to provide proof of ownership. If it is considered evidence, it may not be released until the criminal case has been disposed of.

1. How do I view the most current water quality report?

The Town's Annual Water Quality Report - also known as a Consumer Confidence Report - is made available by July 1, at the latest, every year. You may view the most recent Annual Water Quality Report.

2. I do not use Town water for irrigation purposes. Do I still have to follow the irrigation watering restrictions stated on the Town's website?

The short answer is yes. Because the Town of Oakland is regulated by the St. John's River Water Management District, all residents must follow its mandates. Even if you draw water from a private well or draw water from a lake, you must follow the stated irrigation watering restrictions. Some exceptions apply. 3. When is trash collected?

Waste Management is contracted to collect household trash on Tuesday and Friday. Yard waste is collected on Wednesday. Recyclables are collected on Wednesday. 

4. How do I view my water consumption online?

Visit the account-holder portal at Mueller Homeowner Portal. You must have already registered with the front desk at Town Hall to receive your username and password. If you have not already registered, please call 407-656-1117 x2100 or visit the Town Hall at 230 North Tubb Street in Oakland, Florida.

5. Can I turn my water off for vacation or an extended period of time?

Please call the front desk at Town Hall to have a Public Works employee turn off your service. The phone number is 407-656-1117 x2100.

6. Why don't I have water?

In most cases, the department is aware of a resident's disrupted service. Please call Town Hall at 407-656-1117 x2100 for more information.

7. Why is my water pressure low?

Many factors can cause a decrease in water pressure. Please call Town Hall 407-656-1117 x2100 for more information or to schedule an employee to investigate the distribution system.

8. A street lamp is not functioning properly. What must be done to fix it?

You may report a malfunctioning street lamp to Duke Energy.

9. I found a yellow Town door hanger on my front door, but the writing is illegible. Who do I contact to learn more?

Please call the Public Works Department to learn why we made a visit to your residence. Dial 407-656-1117 x 2304 to reach a staff member.

10. Who do I contact to obtain a right-of-way permit?

There are two ways to obtain a right-of-way permit. You pick one up at the Town Hall front desk, located at 230 N Tubb Street or download the right-of-way permit. 

11. Do I need to apply for a right-of-way permit?

An approved right-of-way permit is required before you plan to modify, construct, or dig within a Town right-of-way. For more information, visit  the Public Work's page for R-O-W permits.

12. How do I learn the status of my right-of-way permit application?

Please call the Public Works Department at 407-656-1117 x2304 to ask questions concerning your submitted right-of-way permit application.

13. What is considered Hazardous Waste?

Hazardous waste includes but is no't limited to paint and paint thinners, used motor oil, freon, cleaning fluids, pesticides, and electronic containing circuit boards. A good rule of thumb for detecting waste as hazardous is by checking the label for any of the following descriptors: corrosive, flammable, or toxic. 14. How do I dispose of Hazardous Waste?

The Town of Oakland no longer accepts household hazardous waste items.

If you have latex paint cans that are empty and the leftover paint is dry, you may put them in your garbage can.  Remember, latex only.

This can be accomplished through several different methods: 1) You can view the Commission agenda and its backup by viewing the Town Commission agendas on the website; 2) You can find a copy of the agenda posted in the box outside the Oakland Post Office on the Friday prior to the meeting.

1. How can I water new sod?

You are required to have a water waiver in advance if you are planting new sod. You may only water on the days and times indicated.

2. Pest control comes on a different day, What do I do?

You may only water on the days and times indicated. Please notify your vendor of your watering day.

3. When can I wash my vehicles?

You may wash your car anytime only with hoses equipped with automatic shutoff device.

4. How do I start water service?

To start water service, you must complete a Utility Service Request Contract. A $125 deposit is required. Deposits are returned when the account is terminated and there are no outstanding bills.

5. Who maintains the water line?

The Town is responsible for maintenance of the meter and upstream delivery system. The customer is responsible for maintenance of the delivery system and fixtures on the outlet side of the meter.

6. Is there a discount when filling my pool?

Oakland does not discount water bills for filling your pool.

7. What happens in the case of suspected water theft?

The town may imprison and/or fine water thieves, up to $1000! Developers and contractors who need to tap into a fire hydrant can do so legally by applying for a permit at the Water Department and getting a hydrant or hose bib meter.

Town employees are trained to detect meter tampering and evidence of water theft.
