On Tuesday, February 12th as part of the Town Commission agenda and in front of members of the Town Commission, Town of Oakland employees, and fellow Oakland PD officers; Sergeant Angela Campbell received commendation from Chief Steven Thomas. Chief Thomas read the following commendation memorandum that he wrote to Sergeant Campbell.
The University of Louisville established the Southern Police Institute (SPI) in 1951. The institute was developed to provide a high level of training in the field of law enforcement in a manner consistent with college style curriculum and methods of instruction. One of the most prestigious and highly sought after programs within the SPI is the Command Officers Development Course.
This five month course requires a significant amount of study and effort. It requires the student to perform a variety of exercises and to address a myriad of problems, regularly faced by command officers within law enforcement. This course is often compared to the FBI's National Academy in terms of its course content and reputation.
On January 18, 2019 you became the first member of our department to graduate from SPI, while employed with our agency. This is a significant achievement for which you can be very proud.
On behalf of the entire department, I want to congratulate and commend you on a job well done.
