[ARCHIVED] Commissioner Rick Polland Attends Orange County Fire Ops 101

Have you heard of Orange County's Fire Ops 101? Through a joint effort between the Orange County Fire Fighters Association, IAFF 2057 and Orange County Fire Rescue Department, elected officials and leaders are able to get a better sense of what fire fighters face on a regular basis. Fire Ops 101 was designed to help decisions makers and leaders and those who work close to the fire service with a unique hands-on experience, in a safe and supportive environment.

The Orange County Fire Fighters Association represent the Paramedics, Firefighters, Engineers, Lieutenants, Captains, Dispatchers, Fire Inspectors, Plans Examiners, Assistant Fire Marshalls, and Battalion Chiefs of the Orange County Fire Rescue Department, Florida. Our own Town Commissioner, Rick Polland, was able to attend the June 1st Fire Ops 101 training in Orlando in which he wore an actual firefighter outfit while he practiced rescuing a dummy from a smoke filled building, went up in the bucket of a ladder track, and tackled a 9-1-1 call all while working alongside a local firefighter. At the end of the training, Commissioner Polland was given an award of appreciation in the form of a plaque for “volunteering his time and effort to experience the needs and physical demands of the fire service by participating in Fire Ops 101.”
