It is that time of year again when the kids are getting ready to
go back to school. Sergeant Campbell, from our own Oakland Police
Department, is currently collecting school supplies for the children of Oakland
who might need a little extra help.
Every year the residents of the
west end of town host a back-to-school fun day for all the kids in Oakland.
During this time any child that needs school supplies can pick them up. On
Saturday August 10th, the back-to-school event will start at Mt.
Zion Church located at 420 W. Hull Avenue with a church service from 10:00 a.m.
until 12:00 p.m. From 12:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. there will be food, arts and
crafts, and games for the children at Pollard Park, located at 525 W. Hull
Avenue.
Please drop off any donations at the Oakland Police Department by 12:00 p.m. on Friday, August 9th. From crayons to backpacks, any school supplies will be greatly appreciated! You can find school supply lists on the Oakland Avenue Charter School website if you need suggestions on school supplies that would be good to donate.
