At the October 8, 2019 Town of Oakland Commission Meeting, several items were covered that we wanted to provide some additional information on for town residents.
Water Rate Increase
In accordance with Resolution 2014-06, the Town water rates are increased each October 1st based on the Consumer Price Index for all urban consumers. The rates for 2019 will be increased 1.75%. The minimum bill will increase .31 cents - $17.49 to $17.80 and the rate structure will also reflect a 1.75% increase. The full rate schedule can be found at https://oaklandfl.gov/192/Water-Rates-Billing.
Traffic Trailer/License Plate Reader Program
In an effort to increase safety for our Oakland residents, the Oakland Police Department will be purchasing and utilizing a radar traffic trailer capable of emitting a visible speed to oncoming motorists coupled with two cameras mounted on the trailer capable of capturing license plates from vehicles approaching and receding from the trailer. This technology is being utilized in many jurisdictions across the State.
The license plate reader technology will allow the Oakland Police Department to instantaneously identify vehicles which are stolen; tags expired, registered owners with criminal warrants, traffic warrants and suspended or expired driver’s licenses and identify vehicles tagged for intelligence from other law enforcement agencies. Amber and Silver Alerts can be loaded into the system providing enhanced capabilities for locating endangered persons.
