To meet the anticipated growth in Lake and Orange counties, Duke Energy is rebuilding a 6.6-mile section of a single-circuit, 69-kilovolt transmission line through Oakland. The work will be conducted between the existing Montverde and Winter Garden substations.
Most of the transmission line will be rebuilt in place using right-of-way along State Road 50. Other areas along the route will use private easement.
Oakland residents will likely see Duke Energy and contractor crews replacing the existing structures with new concrete and steel poles that are approximately 100 feet above ground. This may require trimming and/or removal of vegetation on or near select parcels.
The purpose of the project is to enhance the ability of Duke Energy and neighboring utilities to provide safe and reliable energy to homes, community facilities and businesses in the area; increase capacity to continue delivering reliable electricity to meet the region’s growing energy needs; and maintain a robust energy delivery system which is integral to the continued economic prosperity of the region.
Construction is expected to be completed by November 2021. Duke Energy representatives and the Town of Oakland will continue to inform the public with updates throughout the project.
