The Oakland Police Department is currently investigating a series of recent thefts from the mailbox and the water department drop box located at the Town Center circle on Tubb Street by the Oakland Town Hall.  The thefts date back to the end of October and are as recent as a week.  Anyone who has used these two receptacles to mail bills, and have been notified their bills were not received, may be a victim of this scheme.  We know of at least three instances where victims’ checks were modified and cashed.

We have identified who we believe may be responsible for these crimes and the Winter Garden Police Department and US Postal Inspection Service are now working in conjunction with the Oakland Police Department in this case.  We wish to alert residents who may be victim of check or money order fraud which relates to these drop boxes to please contact Detective Brandon McDonnell here at the Oakland Police Department.
