Interested in serving on a Town of Oakland Board or Committee?
The Town of Oakland has a number of boards and committees which provide assistance to Town of Oakland staff and the Town Commission, most have monthly meetings and require only a few hours of a volunteer’s time. These meetings are all open to the public.
Are you interested in serving? Volunteers are always needed to serve on the Town’s Boards and Committees as there are periodically vacant seats. Most of the members will be recommended by town staff and appointed by the Town Commission. Feel free to attend a meeting to research and review the board/committee that is the best fit for you.

Appearance Review Board (ARB) Vacancy
The Town of Oakland is currently seeking to fill one vacancy for an alternate on the Appearance Review Board (ARB). The ARB meets the 1st Tuesday of each month as needed at 6:30 pm and may also from time to time meet for work sessions. The duties of the Board are to review and recommend architectural qualities of newly proposed structures in the Commercial and Gateway Corridor areas of the Town to ensure the Town's character and Code are being met. Preference will be given to applicants that are recognized practitioners in any of the following fields: Architecture, engineering, landscape architecture, urban design, community planning, building/construction, or related field.
Planning & Zoning Board Vacancy
The Town of Oakland is currently seeking to fill one regular board vacancy as well as two alternate board vacancies on the Planning & Zoning Board. The Planning & Zoning Board meets the 3rd Tuesday of every month as needed at 6:30 pm and may also from time to time meet for work sessions. A time commitment of approximately 2-3 hours a month is necessary. The Planning & Zoning Board implements the comprehensive plan adopted by the Town with reasonable consideration, among other things, to the prevailing land uses, growth characteristics and the character of the respective districts. The board encourages the most appropriate use of the land throughout the town, from time to time revising and amending the plan.
School Advisory Committee (SAC) Vacancy
The Town of Oakland is currently seeking to fill two parent representative committee positions on the School Advisory Committee (SAC). The SAC meets the 2nd Tuesday of every month as needed at 4:00 pm and may also from time to time meet for work sessions. A time commitment of approximately 1-2 hours a month is necessary. The purpose of the SAC is to serve as a liaison between the School (OACS) and the Parents of the Students to the Oakland Town Commission and to serve as a forum for parents, community, and business people who wish to discuss, make requests, and/or make recommendations on education, operational, and facility issues relative to the school. The SAC will also assist in the development and implementation of a School Improvement Plan in accordance with the guidance of the Orange County School District. To be eligible for the open positions, applicants must have a child attending OACS. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in an educational setting and/or PTO member. In addition, preference will be given to those individuals that demonstrate the ability and propensity to give time and effort to school causes, a supportive stance towards school, and a drive to learn.
