The utilization of golf carts beyond their recreational use in the sport of golf continues to trend upwards across the country. In 2005, the Town of Oakland passed a Golf Cart Ordinance.
This ordinance was passed in the middle of a decade that experienced a population growth of more than 170%. Golf carts, also known as Neighborhood Electric Vehicles (NEV), have found great acclaim across the country as a simple method of localized travel that retains more community connection than the isolation of the automobile, even prompting a recent review for deeper analysis regarding the potential of a countywide ordinance by Orange County government officials.
As the Town continues to adapt towards future needs, a comprehensive community golf cart plan that reviews and optimizes safety is needed.
The Town, in partnership with Rollins College, is conducting a survey as the first step.
