[ARCHIVED] Rainy Day Dismissal vs. 30-30 Procedures

Hello Eagle Families,

As we enter the rainy season, we want to clarify the varying inclement weather dismissals. Rainy Day dismissal is used for raining days as an attempt to keep students and staff dry. During Rainy Day dismissal, students are kept indoors and dismissal runs as usual through the car line. Walkers are staged in the art room. The parents/families of walkers are asked to wait in the breezeway near the front cafeteria door until released to go to the art room to pick up their child(ren).

The nationally recognized “30-30 Rule” will be enacted by schools if thunder is heard within 30 seconds of lightning strike. Students will not be dismissed until 30 minutes has passed from the last sound of thunder. However, parents and guardians will be allowed to sign their child out during these situations at the main school office. OACS allows for parents/families to pick up the students from the cafeteria with their car placard.

Due to quick shifts in weather, we may start out with Rainy Day and need to shift to 30-30 Rule. Remember that dismissal between 2:00 and 3:00 (1:00 – 2:00 Wednesday) is not permitted in order for us to attend the protocols necessary to ensure student safety. Therefore, we ask that all families assume traditional dismissal every day. Guidance will be provided as needed.

We thank you for your patience and cooperation.
