Tropical Storm Nicole

11/10/22 3 p.m.. update

Orange County remains under a Local State of Emergency. The Town of Oakland has declared a local state of emergency.

As Nicole moves out of the area this afternoon, remember that hazards will remain. Avoid downed power lines and never walk or drive through flood waters. If your power is out, please operate your generator safely. For more information on watches and warnings, visit weather.gov/mlb.

Town Operations

  • Town Hall is closed on Thursday, Nov. 10 due to the storm and on Friday, Nov. 11 for Veterans Day.
  • The Oakland Nature Preserve will be closed until further notice.
  • The Healthy West Orange Arts & Heritage Center is closed Thursday, Nov. 10 due to the storm and on Friday, Nov. 11 for Veterans Day. It will reopen Wednesday, Nov. 16.

Trash Collection

Recycling and yard waste collection is suspended on Wednesday, Nov. 9. Curbside trash collection is expected to resume on Friday, Nov. 11.

Sandbags

Dispose of unwanted sandbags by emptying sand in your lawn or landscaping beds and throwing used bags in your regular trash. Keep unused bags for future incidents.

Oakland Avenue Charter School

The Oakland Avenue Charter School is closed on Thursday and Friday so our students and staff can respond to the pending weather event. There will be no after-school care on Wednesday, which will be a normal early-release day.

Orange County Schools

 All schools will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 10, and Friday, Nov. 11. All after-school extracurricular activities and extended day programs are canceled Wednesday through Friday. 

Shelters

As of Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 7 a.m., the following shelters in Orange County will be available for residents seeking shelter from Tropical Storm Nicole. All shelters are pet friendly.

  • South Econ Recreation Center/South Econ Community Park
  • 3850 S Econlockhatchee Trail, Orlando, FL 32829
  • West Orange Recreation Center
  • 309 SW Crown Point Rd, Winter Garden, FL 34787
  • For Orange County residents requiring a Special Needs/Medical Shelter please call 3-1-1.
